Is your Favorite Online Store on the List?
Do you often shop online ? If so, which online stores or online marketplaces are often accessed?
We summarizes user preference data on e-commerce in Indonesia. This data was taken in August 2019 in 8 regions with 1,169 respondents aged 18-45 years.
This research was taken with a quantitative approach, online-based surveys and random distribution of survey links. This research produces the following data.
1. Cosmetics
Cosmetics become the target of women and adam in online stores. About 1 in 5 users buy cosmetic products through online stores or online marketplaces.
Users who buy the most cosmetic products through online stores still make their choice on Shopee, as the top choice online store site that is most frequently accessed.
Besides Shopee, Lazada and Tokopedia become the second online store site that is often accessed to buy cosmetic products. Followed by Bukalapak, Sociolla, and Instagram, ranks third according to user preferences. While the fourth rank is another alternative online store site.
2. Fashion products
Although online store or e-commerce sites still dominate user choice, Instagram is also present as an option. As a visual-based social media, Instagram allows businesses to display products immersively through product photos.
This is a favorite online store site that users often access to purchase fashion products. For clothing products, Shopee was ranked number one, Lazada and Tokopedia ranked second, Bukalapak and Instagram ranked third. While the fourth place rank is JD.ID.
For shoes and watches, Shopee ranks first and is frequently accessed by users. Meanwhile, Lazada and Tokopedia won second and third place. Bukalapak won the fourth rank for shoes and watches. Followed by Instagram and Facebook which ranked fourth for shoes and watches.
3. Electronics
Buying electronic products in online stores must have a platform that provides security and trust. It is not uncommon for many users to feel cheated when buying electronic products in online stores.
However, the following online store sites provide security and trust to users through a joint account service. This joint account or escrow account includes an online transaction service by providing several account numbers in the name of the company or online store site.
Unlike buying electronic products through social media, social media tend to be at high risk because there is no escrow account service. Users also cannot see product reviews and user complaints.
Most users buy handphone products. The most frequently accessed online store site, Shopee, ranks first. Then Bukalapak, ranked second. Followed by Tokopedia and Lazada in third and fourth place. And finally, JD.ID.
4. Ticket and travel products
What about vacation and lodging tickets? It turns out that the online shop site and the travel and travel service site occupies the highest position as e-commerce preferences in Indonesia.
For example for train tickets, the most widely accessed Traveloka site and become a reference. This site is ranked first. Followed by sites and mobile applications Train Online or KAI Access. Then the third one is Tiket.com and Tokopedia. While the latter is Pegipegi.
What about hotel reservations or vouchers and airplane tickets? Traveloka is still the champion. Followed by Tiket.com and Pegipegi in second place. Then Agoda and OYO. And the last rank is Booking.com, Airy, and Mister Aladin.
While specifically for plane tickets, Traveloka dominates user choice and ranks first. Then Tiket.com is ranked second, Pegipegi ranked third. And finally, Air Asia, Tokopedia and Garuda Online.
If it is concluded that online store sites that are still the user’s choice are Shopee, Tokopedia, Lazada, and Bukalapak.
According to Merchant Machine, a UK-based research agency said that Indonesia is a country experiencing the fastest growing e-commerce industry, with growth of 78%, B2C (business to customer) expenditure of 7.62 billion USD and average online spending in the amount of 228 USD.
The data is an opportunity for business people or investors in e-commerce companies in Indonesia. This opportunity is also good for expanding products from brands while adding to their customers.
